Test Before You Invest!

The fastest way to validate cloud database architectures, minimizing surprises and maximizing ROI.

I have an update on my plans for an application-based Proof Of Concept Delivery for Cloud Infrastructure Database Architectures. This consists of a service that provides Proof of Concepts (POCs) for cloud database architectures through an application platform. The platform leverages pre-built templates, enabling clients to rapidly deploy and evaluate cloud database solutions in a controlled environment.

The webite/application delivers on-demand POC environments for cloud-based database architectures. Using a library of customizable templates, organizations can test, benchmark, and validate cloud database solutions before full-scale migration. This approach reduces risk, accelerates decision-making, and optimizes cloud investments.

This topic is especially relevant in 2025, as European data sovereignty and regulatory compliance—driven by frameworks like GDPR and recent initiatives such as the EuroStack report—have become central concerns for businesses seeking to reduce dependence on foreign cloud providers and ensure compliance with increasingly stringent EU data protection standards.

CategoryUS Hyperscalers (AWS, Azure, GCP)EU Providers (UpCloud, Tilaa, etc.)
Market ShareDominant globally (AWS: 31-33%, Azure: 21-24%, GCP: 11%)Niche/regional, but growing in EU
Service Breadth200+ services, advanced AI/ML, global reach, multi-region, hybrid, serverless, managed DBFocused core IaaS/PaaS, often with simpler pricing
ComplianceFull GDPR, HIPAA, ISO, PCI, US/EU data centersStrong GDPR, often stricter EU data residency
PricingComplex, often lower for on-demand compute (GCP cheapest overall)Simpler, transparent, sometimes better for EU data
PerformanceLow latency globally, strong in US, variable in EUOptimized for EU latency, can outperform in region
Support & LocalityGlobal 24/7, but sometimes less personalizedLocal support, EU-based teams, language options
Data SovereigntyData can be stored in EU, but subject to US CLOUD ActFull EU jurisdiction, no US legal exposure

POC Application Platform:

  • Web-based application for provisioning and managing POCs using pre-configured templates for leading cloud providers (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Upcloud, Tilaa and several other EU-based cloud providers).
  • Self-service portal allowing users to select, customize, and launch POCs tailored to their use case.
  • Integration with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Packer) for automated deployment.

Template Library:

  • Extensive collection of database architecture templates (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server, serverless, sharded clusters).
  • Templates include best practices for security, performance, and compliance.

I am making good progress on the application with a React/NodeJS frontend and Python Flask backend. The basic’s are working and I am aiming for a launch before Q4 2025! I’ll keep you posted.
